The MIB has created a scheme to speed up
road accident compensation claims where liability is not
disputed - 6th December 2007
The Motor
Insurers Bureau (MIB) who deal with accidents involving
uninsured or
untraced drivers, have devised a new scheme to accelerate
the time it takes them to deal with certain claims. The "Fast
Track Understanding" has been developed to help innocent victims
of
road accidents obtain compensation without waiting for a
full blown investigation to be carried out by the MIB.
The agreement is aimed at straightforward
claims where liability is not in dispute and where the likely
cost of compensation does not exceed £10,000. This is an
Understanding between MIB and
The Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS) to assist in
the handling of MIB claims.
The MIB handle many thousands of claims each
year from motorists involved in accidents with other drivers who
have either
no insurance or who leave the scene (hit
and runs). There are more than 200,000 such incidents each
year.
The MIB are duty bound to investigate each
road accident claim
before paying compensation which leads to lengthy delays. Even
simple claims can take more than 18 months to conclude.
The agreement even incorporates very minor
claims where personal injury damages fall within £1000. In such
cases, the MIB will pay legal costs of £275 + vat as a flat fee.
With more than 1.5 million drivers on UK
roads having no insurance, the MIB will continue to be kept very
busy indeed. The Fast Track Understanding will help ease the
burden for both the MIB and accident victims alike.
