Millions fear motorway driving in Britain
taking more dangerous alternate routes -
27th October 2009
A recent survey has shown that one in seven drivers on Britain's
roads may be increasing their chances of being involved in a
road accident by avoiding driving on motorways because they are
afraid.
Up to five million drivers lack the skills to
drive on motorways
safely, so have avoided driving on them for years.
The survey carried out by
the AA Driving School reveals many
thousand drivers will take more dangerous A-roads to avoid
motorway driving, putting themselves and their passengers at an
increased risk of being hurt in a
road accident.
Simon Douglas an AA director commented: "Motorways are Britain's
most feared roads, with a lost generation of drivers avoiding
them completely."
