TyreSafe in conjunction with BikeSafe are
hoping to raise awareness of the importance of motorcycle and
scooter tyre safety with a campaign running through March - 17th
March 2008
Through March
TyreSafe the non-profit
making organisation promoting tyre safety is running a campaign
to raise awareness of the importance of safe tyres amongst
motorcycle and scooter riders.
Badly worn or defective tyres can
significantly increase the chances of
bike accidents occurring often leading to the riders
sustaining serious injuries or worse.
The campaign hopes to highlight the
importance of ensuring that motorcycles and scooters regularly
have their tyres inspected for legal tread depth or better,
correct tyre pressures and damaged tyres, with the necessary
corrective measures being taken where necessary.
TyreSafe has received support for their initiative from
BikeSafe, the UK's
police road safety campaign. The campaign will culminate at a
major bike safety show which is to be held at the police
training centre in Hendon, North London during the final week of
March.
Over recent years congestion, the drive to
reduce CO2 emissions and big rises in the cost of fuel have seen
a big rise in the number of bikes and scooters being used, which
in turn has also seen a increase in the number of
road accidents involving these methods of transport.
Highlighting the importance of
good tyre maintenance should help to reduce the number of
bike accidents if riders carry out the checks and actions
they are advised to do.
Not only do motorcyclists and scooter riders
increase the risk of injury, or worse to themselves and others
by riding with badly maintained tyres, there is also the chance
that their insurance will increase if they do need to make an
accident claim.
