Driving during the winter months increases
the chances of being involved in a road accident - 17th
December 2007
During winter, the number of
road accidents
increases due to the poor driving conditions.
Slippery roads and poor visibility all
contribute to the increase in
car accidents. What Car
has produced an
online winter road guide which gives useful information on
things like preparing for journeys, vehicle checks, what to
carry in your vehicle, seasonal security and winter dangers.
Motorists could benefit by following the
many tips to keep out of trouble whilst driving during the
winter months, and may also benefit from taking a look at our
own winter driving information page.
Meanwhile
DriveSafe courses are being offered to drivers teaching them
how to drive in wintry conditions.
The courses being offered by
Rockingham at their
Northamptonshire based international motor sport venue teach
drivers to stay safe in extreme weather conditions using their
own cars.
The courses should provide a good
understanding of how to react to the hazards of everyday driving
and help reduce accidents.
Pedestrian accidents also increase through the dark winter
months.
If you are walking near roads, to help in
being seen by motorists you should wear bright or
fluorescent clothing on dull days and reflective clothing at
night.
