Thousands of ill prepared drivers are expected to breakdown
whilst visiting this Christmas - 19th December 2007
As people finish work for Christmas this Friday and set off
to visit relatives and friends, the UK's breakdown recovery
services are preparing for a busy few days.
Many thousands of motorists will set off on long journeys ill
prepared for the winter driving conditions they may have to
face.
They won't have checked their vehicle is correctly
prepared for winter journeys which may lead to them breaking
down and needing to call breakdown recovery services like the
AA,
RAC or
Green Flag. Graeme
Trudgill of the British
Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) said "It's the sensible
precaution at this time of year to make sure you are ready, make
sure your car is ready so if something does happen then you will
be prepared," adding that motorists should prepare a survival
kit for their vehicle so they can call someone if they breakdown
and keep warm.
The busy roads, with stressed, unprepared drivers in the
wintry conditions leading up to Christmas, will lead to many
accidents on the roads, with insurance companies expecting a
rise in road accident
claims on the lead up to Christmas. Drivers also need to be
extra alert with many people drinking over the festive period,
with many peoples judgment being impaired by alcohol.
This can lead to people stepping out into roads without
warning in front of vehicles causing
pedestrian accidents, or people drink driving and increasing
their chances of being involved
car accidents.
