Road accident scams - NEWS

The Insurance Fraud Bureau ((IFB) which is an industry funded organisation have helped the police make a number of arrests following an investigation into a bogus accidents.

The police in conjunction with the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) have made a series of arrests following an investigation into a bogus accident scam. The various methods used by the fraudsters to promote bogus claims included targeting unwitting motorists who may be forced into an accident.

For example the fraudsters on many occasions will entice a rear end shunt by slamming on at an opportune moment and for no apparent reason. Arrests were made in Herts, Beds and London and followed many months of investigation by the bodies involved.

Passengers appear "out of the blue" and seek to claim whiplash compensation for an accident that in many cases they were not actually involved in.

Insurance fraud in the motor accident claims arena alone accounts for up to £6 million of payments every year. This money affects the overall premium costs across the industry and reflects on every single motorist.
