The Government (DSA) are holding a public
consultation on the way we learn to drive giving people the
chance to have their say - 24th June 2008
Over the last ten years the number of people
killed or injured in
road accidents has fallen by a third on the UK's roads
making it one of the safest places in the world to drive.
Statistics show that one in five newly
qualified drivers will be involved in a
road accident
within the first six months after passing their driving test.
In 2006 over three hundred newly-qualified
drivers and their passengers were killed in
road accidents. One-fifth of fatalities as a result of
car accidents involve newly-qualified drivers and their
passengers.
The Government (DSA)
has published the 'Learning to Drive' consultation paper which
explains the proposals and reasons why it is important that we
review the way we learn to drive.
The proposals for improvements include:
-
An improved driving test A better
learning process Improved driving instructor training
-
More information about driving
instructors
-
More options for learning qualifications
-
There is a public consultation on this
topic so you can have your say
This is open until 8th September 2008, for
