Pothole problem for learner drivers

With more and more potholes on Britain's roads learning to drive is becoming more difficult - 21st August 2009

The increased number of potholes on Britain’s roads is not only damaging vehicles and increasing the risk of car accident claims on insurance, they are also a nightmare for learner drivers and their instructors.

Some driving instructors are re-routing lessons to avoid potholes which may have caused vehicle damage, or many to grab the steering wheel in order to take evasive action.

Many driving instructors have suffered burst or damaged tyres hitting pot holes which can be costly, and tyre safety is of paramount importance.

It is estimated that there are around 1.5 million potholes on our Britain's roads which are putting drivers at unnecessary increased risk of road accidents and damage to their cars.

The AA president commenting on the pothole problem said: "It is a major concern. An innocuous looking puddle may actually be a deep pothole. All drivers should take care."

When one AA instructor stepped out of their car into a pothole they suffered a broken leg.
