A student was made up to look like she
had been involved in a car crash whilst not wearing a seat belt
to help get a road safety message across -

February 2009
Students in Leeds were given an insight into the possible
car crash injuries
they might receive if they don't
wear a
seat belt and are involved in a
car accident.
17-year-old health and beauty student Jessica Kendrick, was made
up to look like a
car accident casualty who had not been wearing a seatbelt
and had recently been released from hospital, by fellow students
for a talk by Dave Sloman a Road Safety Officer.
The makeover worked as the audience of around 50 students
appeared shocked at the extent of Jessica's injuries, who were
led to believe that she had been involved in a
road accident
while not wearing a seatbelt in her boyfriends’ car.
The aim of the event, organised as part of Leeds' road safety
pre-driver programme, was to make students aware how dangerous
it is not to wear a seatbelt whilst travelling in motor
vehicles.
A student from Park Lane
College Leeds commented: "It comes as a shock to students to
learn how many young women end up with serious injuries because
they have been involved in a car crash and were not wearing a
seatbelt."
Jessica will now appear in the 'Because you’re worth it' poster
campaign which shows her before and after the fictional
car accident.
