Campaigns are being run across
Hertfordshire targeting drunken pedestrian accidents
- 9th August 2009
Hertfordshire have been running campaigns aimed at reducing the
number of drunk
pedestrian accidents in the county.
There had been an average of 2 to 3 people killed each year as a
result of being involved in
pedestrian accidents
whilst drunk across Hertfordshire.
In 2007 there were 48 drunk
pedestrian accident
casualties reported in the county.
Initiatives run by the
Hertfordshire road safety unit have included campaigns
including a textataxi service which will return a licensed taxi
number if details of the persons town were text, handing out
fortune cookies to drivers reminding them to watch out for drunk
pedestrians, leaflets giving people having a drink advice on how
to get home safely, temporary tattoos with the textataxi number
on and bar staff wearing t-shirts with the number on.
The campaigns by the road safety unit have been running
successfully for three years with no reported drink related
pedestrian accidents
reported while any of the campaigns have been running, and
during 2008 there were no drunken
pedestrian road accident
fatalities.
