The bodies early warning system for
fatigue should warn drivers to take a break - 8th
September 2008
The human body causes us to blink more
frequently when we are tired or bored, which if drivers take
notice of this warning and pull over in a safe location could
help in preventing some road accidents.
Breakdown and
recovery company GEM
Motoring Assist say that when fatigue is beginning to set in
people will blink more than the usual average of ten times per
minute. This is a good indication to drivers that they are no
longer able to concentrate on the road correctly, and are at an
increased risk of being involved in a
road accident.
David Williams the Chief Executive of the breakdown company
said: "It is a built-in early warning system that gives us the
opportunity to head for the nearest motorway service area or
other refuge from the road before our driving becomes erratic
and potentially dangerous."
