EuroRap ratings identify the most dangerous
road in Britain to be the Cat and Fiddle (A537) - 6th July 2008
The A537 between Buxton and Macclesfield has
been named the most dangerous road in Britain.
Drivers have a thirty times greater risk of
being killed in a
road accident on this stretch of road than they have on a
motorway. EuroRAP the
road safety experts and producers of
ITV's Police, Camera, Action!
gave a rating to roads in 10 regions
The Cat and Fiddle, named after a pub at its
highest point, was found to be the road on which
road accidents are most likely to occur.
In all ten regions A-roads topped the list
for being the most dangerous accident blackspots.
Motorways and duel carriageways are believed
by four out of ten motorists to be the ones that drivers are
most likely to be involved in a
road accident on, this is actually not correct, with driver
more likely to be killed or
injured in a road accident on rural roads.
The Cat and Fiddle pub landlord David Barnes
made comparisons with the Isle of Man suggesting that vehicles
often drove too fast like they were on a race track.
He also referred to more policing recently
which has helped to calm the situation, helping to reduce
speeding and as a result goods vehicle,
motorcyclist and
car accidents.
