Paris is to host this years European Road Safety Day on the
13th October - 10th
October 2008
The 13th October 2008 sees the second
European Road Safety Day
which will concentrate on road safety in cities, aiming to
reduce the number of road accidents in urban areas.
It is part of the European action plan which has set a target of
halving the number of
road accident fatalities in the European
Union to 27,000 by 2010 compared with 2001.
Last years event, the
first European Road Safety Day was aimed
at young people, focusing on alcohol and drugs in traffic, and
training and education. This year’s event, the second will
address road safety concerns in urban areas where approximately
two thirds of road accidents occur, and one third of
accidents
resulting in fatalities happen.
The main event will be held at the Espace Grande Arche in Paris
and will have around 40 exhibition stands open to the public
which are aimed at European citizens.
