Police in Yorkshire are targeting uninsured
drivers with powers to remove and crush offenders vehicles -
10th February 2008
The Yorkshire Post is reporting that there is to be a major
crackdown on
uninsured drivers in Yorkshire with the police having powers
to confiscate and crush offenders’ vehicles.
This is good news for all those unfortunate
enough to have been involved in a
road accident with an uninsured driver, and those law
abiding motorists who pay expensive insurance premium which are
inflated because of those who choose not to pay.
Many insured drivers will have had to make a
car accident claim
on their insurance despite the accident not being their fault
after being in a collision with an uninsured driver.
Their have been links made between uninsured
drivers and other offences such as
hit and runs or driving unroadworthy vehicles, and a
clampdown should help improve
road safety and
reduce other criminal activities.
The number of vehicles taken off the road by
police has rocketed with an increase from 78,000 in 2006 to
around 150,000 in 2007.
In some postcodes in Yorkshire it is
estimated that more than 50 percent of vehicles are uninsured
